On 10 February 2013, the Federal Government announced that it will extend the right to request flexible working hours to parents returning from parental leave.
Currently, employees who are carers and or parents with children under school age, or with a disability, with 12 months ongoing employment, or with long-term casual employment have a right to ask employers for flexible working arrangements. But employers can knock back the request on ‘reasonable business grounds’. The Federal Government is planning to extend this to other people.
We watch this space with anticipation. If you have any questions on this or other employment related issues, please contact Adam Foster or Chris Morey on +61 (03) 9629 9629.
