Originally a biochemist involved in medical research, John discovered a passion for the law over 30 years ago. Over the last 25 years, John has focused his work on corporations law (including capital raisings, mergers and acquisitions and regulatory advice), financial services licensing, trusts, commercial and residential property (leasing, syndications and development) and not-for-profit/charities law.
John regularly acts for companies and their directors, officers and shareholders in various sectors. John also acts for financial services licensees, property developers, small to large commercial enterprises, charities and social enterprises.
John brings a wealth of experience from his science background (which assists his understanding of the biotechnology sector). John has also been involved in court proceedings in the Federal Court, County Court and Supreme Court of Victoria. He has been invited to participate in an ASIC Focus Group for policy in relation to takeovers and has presented at Charities and Not-for-profits conferences in relation to social enterprises and directors’ duties. John has also been invited, on occasion, to provide assistance and feedback to the Australian Accounting Standards Board.
John prefers to work with regulators (particularly ASIC) to achieve better results for clients rather than challenging them in court. He has formed a network of contacts that can be of great assistance to clients who have issues that need to be addressed.
John has been a participant in both the Law Institute of Victoria’s Charities and Not-for-profit Committee and the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission’s Professional Advisers Group.
John is also a Fellow of the CEO Institute and Certified CEO.
